The two-year Master of Science in Athletic Training (M.S.A.T.) prepares you to become a licensed athletic trainer, entering a fast-growing field projected to expand by 14% over the next decade. This entry-level master’s program combines dynamic classroom instruction with hands-on clinical experiences, equipping graduates for success across a wide range of athletic training roles.

Seton Hall’s cutting-edge facilities, distinguished faculty and robust clinical network set our M.S.A.T program apart. Clinical rotations begin in the first semester, giving students immediate, real-world experience on the playing field. Our graduates go on to work as athletic trainers for NCAA sports teams, professional sports organizations, Broadway productions, the U.S. Military, hospitals and a variety of healthcare and corporate settings.

Admissions Requirements

The M.S.A.T. program welcomes your application and questions about the admission process. Scores from the Graduate Record Examination (GRE) are not required for admission to the M.S.A.T. program. 

Qualified applicants should have a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university, with a preferred overall cumulative grade point average (GPA) of 3.0 on a 4-point scale.

Curriculum Overview

Seton Hall’s M.S.A.T. program blends classroom and lab experiences with hands-on clinical education. Upon completion, graduates will be thoroughly prepared for the Board of Certification Examination (BOC) and to enter the profession as athletic training clinicians.

This is a two-year, 64-credit, six-semester Professional Level Master of Science Degree Program. Students develop the knowledge and skills needed to perform as athletic trainers and to adapt to the rapid changes in the profession and healthcare.  In addition to preparing students for the BOC, our curriculum also equips them to take the Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) examination.

How long will the program take to complete?

Students complete the M.S.A.T. program in six semesters, over a two-year period.

Are there set times to attend my classes? What does the schedule look like?

The Fall and Spring semesters as a first-year student will consist of class daily. Classes will typically start at 7:30 a.m. and end at about 1:00 p.m. You will also be assigned a clinical site where you must complete a set number of hours for each semester. This will include both weekday and weekend obligation at your clinical site.

Second year students will spend fewer days on campus in class and more time at their clinical site. The Fall and Spring semesters as a first-year student will consist of class daily.
