Lactation Space Guidelines

Students who are nursing or lactating may request to use a lactation space to express milk while on campus.

The following are the University’s designated lactation spaces:

South Orange Campus:

  • Schwartz Hall, Room 217 on the 2nd floor. Scheduling requests for this space must be made by booking through the following “Lactation Space” link: https://www.shu.edu/title-ix/lactation-space.html. This link can also be found on the Title IX webpage under the Resource Directory. Once the scheduling request is approved, requestors may pick up the key code to the lactation room from Christine Yarwood in Room 251 on the 2nd floor. A key is also available from the Title IX Coordinator located in Bayley Hall, 1st floor, Room 110D. The key code and key must be returned to Christine Yarwood or the Title IX Coordinator at the conclusion of your scheduled time period. The room is available during regular business hours (Monday – Friday from 8:45 a.m. – 4:45 p.m.).
  • Walsh Library, Room 436 on the 4th floor. Scheduling requests for this space must be made by booking through the following “Lactation Space” link: https://www.shu.edu/title-ix/lactation-space.html. This link can also be found on the Title IX webpage under the Resource Directory. Once the scheduling request is approved, requestors may pick up the key to the lactation room from the Circulation Desk on the 2nd floor. This space is also available, if needed, after regular business hours or weekends upon request.

Requestors will be required to provide their name, Seton Hall ID number, and approximate dates/times that reasonable access to the lactation space will be needed. Any requestor who needs a scheduling change or wishes to cancel a lactation space reservation should make the change/cancellation request as soon as possible through the reservation link or through the contact person for that space.

School of Law Campus:

Interprofessional Health Sciences (IHS) Campus:

  • Rooms 1119 on the 1st floor and 2661 on the 2nd floor. Requestors must use the thumb turn locks from the inside when in use. These rooms have a status indicator on the outside based on the lock position. Please direct any questions on the use of these rooms to Todd Keiser, Director Medical School Facilities, at [email protected] or 201-403-8412. The rooms are available while the building is open.

Lactation spaces are only to be used for the purpose of expressing and collecting breast milk. They are not to be used for studying, sleeping, or any other purpose unrelated to lactation.

Those using a lactation space are expected to lock the door behind them, clean up after themselves (wipe down the area) and remove all personal belongings. Disinfectant wipes are provided but are not intended to be used to clean personal equipment. If wipes are not available, please notify the Lactation Space Contact person for the respective campus.

If you encounter any issues or concerns with the lactation space, please contact Toni Hindsman, Director of EEO Compliance/Title IX Coordinator at [email protected] or (973) 275-2513.
