In today’s diverse and evolving clinical landscape, supervisors and trainers must be equipped to respond thoughtfully to cultural and systemic issues that impact both clients and trainees. In this keynote, Dr. Melanie Wilcox will explore how integrating the Multicultural Orientation (MCO) and Structural Competence frameworks can enhance the effectiveness and inclusivity of clinical supervision and training. Attendees will gain valuable insights and practical strategies to create more equitable, responsive and socially informed supervisory relationships.

This program will provide 4 hours of continuing education (CE) credits and is co-sponsored by the Graduate School of Applied and Professional Psychology (GSAPP) and Seton Hall University.
The Supervision Conference, at the intermediate level, is appropriate for psychologists, counselors, mental health professionals and graduate students who have some familiarity with the content.

About the Speaker
Melanie M. Wilcox, Ph.D., ABPP, is a nationally recognized counseling psychologist,
educator, and leader in the field of mental health training. She serves as associate
professor and co-director of doctoral training in counseling psychology at the University
at Albany.
Dr. Wilcox’s work focuses on promoting culturally and structurally responsive psychotherapy and clinical education, with particular attention to racial and socioeconomic inequities. She has authored or co-authored over 40 peer-reviewed publications and has delivered nearly 200 presentations across academic, professional and continuing education settings. In addition to shaping policy through her work with the American Psychological Association (APA), she currently serves as past-president of APA’s Division 17 (Society of Counseling Psychology) and chair-elect of the APA Committee on Socioeconomic Status.
Her recent accolades include the 2025 Counseling Psychologist Outstanding Article Award, the 2024 APA Presidential Heiser Award for Advocacy, and the 2024 Training and Education in Professional Psychology Outstanding Contribution Award.
Dr. Wilcox is also a licensed and board-certified psychologist who provides part-time therapy through the Aguirre Center for Inclusive Psychotherapy in Atlanta. Her clinical specialties include trauma and loss, LGBTQ+-affirming care, culturally responsive assessment and addiction treatment.
