Seton Hall leaders and faculty met with Salvatore Moccia (pictured 3rd from right), dean of EIT Digital early in 2025 to discuss global partnership opportunities.
Seton Hall University has officially become the first university in the United States to join the European Institute of Innovation and Technology (EIT) Digital, marking a significant step in the university’s global strategy to lead in digital innovation, entrepreneurship and international collaboration.
EIT Digital, an initiative of the European Union, unites top universities, research institutions and industry leaders to drive digital transformation through education and innovation. Seton Hall’s inclusion in this influential network reflects its growing role on the global stage and its commitment to fostering academic excellence and practical impact in the digital economy.
As one of the oldest and most distinguished Catholic universities in the United States, Seton Hall has a long-standing dedication to interdisciplinary education, ethical leadership and global engagement. Its graduate programs in the Stillman School of Business, particularly the STEM-designated M.B.A. tracks, as well as STEM graduate degrees in College of Arts & Sciences, align closely with EIT Digital’s mission to transform digital talent into entrepreneurial leaders. Through this membership, Seton Hall plans to expand its curriculum, deepen faculty and student research opportunities and enhance international career pathways.
“This partnership aligns perfectly with our mission to develop entrepreneurial leaders and foster global collaboration,” said Mary Kate Naatus, Ph.D., associate provost of Partnerships/Global Initiatives and dean of Continuing Education and Professional Studies. “Seton Hall students will benefit from direct exposure to global innovators and institutions at the forefront of digital change.”
Seton Hall’s collaboration with EIT Digital is already sparking exciting new initiatives. The university is exploring a Global M.B.A. in partnership with a European university, allowing students to study across borders while earning an M.B.A. In addition, the redesigned Master of Data Science and Engineering and a potential master's program in cybersecurity in the College of Arts and Sciences align well with EIT Digital’s Knowledge and Innovation Communities.
Seton Hall’s location in South Orange, New Jersey, just outside New York City, one of the world’s major financial and technology hubs, adds a major advantage for expanding EIT, offering students and partners access to a broad network of global companies, startup incubators and venture capital. Through this consortium, Seton Hall is poised to serve as a bridge between the European innovation ecosystem and the American marketplace.
Another promising area of engagement is Seton Hall’s active participation in the EIT Digital Open Innovation Factory. This platform supports the creation of scalable digital ventures across partner institutions. Seton Hall is committed to contributing to this initiative through applied research, faculty collaboration and student innovation projects that span disciplines and industries.
“We are very energized by Seton Hall’s membership in EIT Digital,” said Salvatore Moccia, dean of EIT Digital. “This partnership opens doors for new collaborations and deeper connections between Europe and the United States, and we look forward to creating opportunities for students, faculty and industry leaders together. We are delighted about the opportunities of this new partnership and look forward to continuing our collaborations with the deans and the many leaders that we have met at Seton Hall.”
Seton Hall’s entrance into EIT Digital represents a transformative opportunity not only for the university, but also for expanding transatlantic cooperation in education, research and digital enterprise. The partnership demonstrates the university’s commitment to advancing global innovation while shaping future leaders who are prepared to thrive in an interconnected world.
