FORGE YOUR

own way forward

The path to purpose is not the same for everyone. If you seek to continue your education but a degree program is not the right fit for your time or budget, consider applying as a non-degree-seeking student, which allows you to take graduate courses on an individual basis, without enrolling in a specific program.

The Education You Want

the flexibility you need

Most of our graduate programs allow students to take courses without earning a degree. Unlike with continuing education graduate-level classes, non-degree-seeking (or non-matriculated) students take graduate courses for credit, which can be applied to one of our graduate programs in the future.

Non-matriculated student graduate credit is a smart option if you …

  • Only want to take one or two graduate courses

  • Are not sure which program (or career path) you want to pursue

  • Need more time to prepare graduate program admission requirements

  • Seek professional development or need to satisfy license requirements

Before you apply, keep these considerations in mind:

  • Students taking graduate courses without a degree are not eligible for financial aid through Seton Hall

  • If you decide to enroll as a degree-seeking student in the future, you will need to formally apply and submit all required documentation. Your status as a non-degree-seeking student does not guarantee your admission into the program

  • Depending on the program, you will be limited to six or 12 credits on a non-matriculated basis

Not only does Stillman have a phenomenal alumni network, but [it] also provides students with every tool to ensure they have success when looking for a job and beyond. Every professor truly cares about every student’s education, and at the same time, challenges us every day to think critically and keep our curiosity levels high

VISITING STUDENTS

are always welcome

Students currently enrolled in a graduate degree program at another university may take a Seton Hall graduate course to fulfill one or more curriculum requirements at your home institution. Before enrolling as a non-degree-seeking student, you must have permission from your program dean or chairperson to ensure the Seton Hall course is equivalent to the course at your home institution and will be approved for transfer credits.

Application

guidelines

The application process for non-degree-seeking students is largely the same.

Once your completed application is received by the Office of Graduate Admissions, it will be forwarded to the appropriate graduate department for review. You will be notified of the department’s decision via letter or email.

  • Complete your online application as a non-matriculated student
  • Submit your application along with your application fee and supporting documentation
  • Contact all post-secondary institutions that you have attended and arrange for them to send your official transcripts:
