Employment of Temporary Workers

All temporary hires must be made through one of the University's preferred temporary agencies. Temporary workers may not be placed on the University's payroll.

  • Temporary workers who are covering for administrative and non-union staff positions may be hired for a maximum of six months.
  • Temporary workers who are covering for Local 153 positions may be hired for a maximum of 60 calendar days, unless the temporary worker is replacing an employee who is on an approved leave of absence or is assisting with a special project about which Local 153 has been notified.
  • Temporary workers who are covering for Local 68 positions may be hired for a maximum of one year.

Procedures

Departments that wish to hire a temporary worker, please fill out the Request for Temporary Staffing Assignment and follow the instructions on the form.

Upon receipt of the Request for Temporary Staffing Assignment, Human Resources will contact the University's preferred temporary agencies. 

In order to arrange computer and email access for the temporary worker, the hiring manager will need to log into PirateNet and click on the "My Work" tab. At the bottom of the screen, click on "Request a Temporary Account" and complete the required information.
