Heart of the University: Faculty Retreat Series 2024-2025
Thursday, January 16, 2025
The Heart of the University Retreat Series gives faculty and administrators of all
faiths the opportunity for input and guided reflection. The series is co-sponsored
by the Office of Mission and Ministry, and the Center for Vocation and Servant Leadership.
The third retreat, given by Doreen Stiskal, PT, Ph.D., on the theme of "Mission Integration
and Community: The Power for Fostering Authenticity," will be held from 9 to 11 a.m.,
on Tuesday, February 18, 2025, in the Chancellor’s Suite and via Microsoft Teams.
Universities thrive as a set of interwoven communities, essential for fostering self-transcendence,
as they encourage students to look beyond their individual concerns and engage with
larger ideas. As faculty, we provide insight into our disciplines, while inspiring
students to discover their own potential and contribute meaningfully to the community.
Embracing openness to spiritual perspectives can further enrich the learning environment
by fostering a deeper sense of purpose and connection among students. This retreat
will consider the themes of community, authenticity, authority, and values by exploring
our roles at a Catholic university to encourage a more holistic approach to education.
Doreen M. Stiskal, PT, Ph.D. retired as the Chairperson in the Department of Physical Therapy. Stiskal is a GEM Fellow and Peer Leader in the Praxis Program.
