Seton Hall University’s Center for Faculty Development will host “Innovators in AI: Pedagogical Challenges and Ethical Questions” from noon
- 2 p.m. on Monday, April 14, in room 129, Fahy Hall. This event will feature presentations
by Aya Yadlin, Ph.D., senior lecturer at Bar-Ilan University, and Megan Kane, Ph.D., visiting assistant professor of English at Seton Hall University, focusing
on AI tools they have developed to enhance educational experiences.
The presentations will be followed by a panel discussion on the use of AI, ethics and pedagogy in education. The discussion will be moderated by Ruth Tsuria, Ph.D., associate professor of communication at Seton Hall University.
Yadlin, a senior lecturer at Bar-Ilan University’s School of Communication, is part of the team that created the BIU Generative AI-Based Teaching Assistant Project. The project introduced an AI-based teaching assistant trained on specific course material to support students’ learning needs. The assistant offers immediate assistance to students who have missed classes or need additional clarification on assignments.
Kane was one of the co-developers of the AI Aware Writing Environment, a cloud-based word processor with AI features that can be customized by instructors. AAWE aims to guide students toward the ethical application of AI in academic writing through its flexible assignment interface and insights into student engagement, writing and editing behaviors and patterns of authorized and unauthorized AI use.
This workshop offers a valuable opportunity for educators and students to explore the use of AI tools in education, addressing both innovations and ethical concerns.
