Alumnus Joshua Meyer ‘12 to Lead Workshop on Artificial Intelligence

People Looking at LaptopThe Teaching, Learning and Technology Roundtable (TLTR) Artificial Intelligence Committee will host a workshop, TLTR AI Committee Speaker Series: AI 101, at 12:30 to 1:45 p.m., Wednesday, November 12, in the Bishop Dougherty University Center, Room 206. The event, open to students and faculty, will feature alumnus Joshua Meyer ‘12, an AI leader working at the intersection of language, data and machine learning.

In this one-hour interactive workshop, faculty and students will receive a friendly introduction to how large language models (LLMs) work, starting from the basics of how they predict text and progressing to their role as helpful digital assistants. Meyer will explain how these models react to user prompts and how to use them effectively and responsibly. The session will also address typical AI “quirks,” such as hallucinations and demonstrate practical ways to make academic and professional work more efficient through AI-supported methods.

Meyer holds a Ph.D. in automatic speech recognition from the University of Arizona and a B.A. in liberal studies from Seton Hall University. Over the past decade, he has worked across startups, non-profits and large companies, from co-founding the generative voice AI company Coqui to leading applied AI at Rabbit. He now builds simulation environments for training large language model agents at Veris AI and helps new ventures turn research into real products.

The TLTR Artificial Intelligence Committee, co-chaired by Ruchin Kansal, M.B.A., and Jessica Rauchberg, Ph.D., researches the effects of AI on higher education, supports policy development, curates best practices for integration and explores implications for the future workplace. The committee is part of the broader Teaching, Learning, and Technology Roundtable, which was founded in 1995 to enhance teaching and learning through the effective use of technology and to encourage collaboration among faculty, students and administrators.
