Faculty and Administration News (FAN)  

First issued in November 2009, Faculty & Administration News (FAN) is a quarterly publication of Immaculate Conception Seminary School of Theology. The aim of this newsletter is to share with readers the many accomplishments of ICSST's faculty and administrators.

In This Issue:

  • Ellen R. Scully, Ph.D., promoted to Full Professor, effective beginning with AY 2025-2026; Ellen R. Scully, Ph.D., Timothy P. Fortin, Ph.D., and Patrick R. Manning, Ph.D., each earn faculty merit award.
  • Reverend Joseph R. Laracy, S.T.D., Jamie Boulding, Ph.D., and Patrick R. Manning, Ph.D., with two Seton Hall colleagues, receive $30,000 grant from SHU Provost’s Office to found Stanley Jaki Academy for Theology and Science.
  • Andrew M. Brenycz ’99, M.L.I.S., begins service as ICSST Librarian; Elizabeth M. Vacchiano, M.A. ’20, begins service as Academic Resource Specialist; Reverend Juan Gabriel Rojas-Hernandez begins service as Vice Rector of The College Seminary of the Immaculate Conception at St. Andrew’s Hall.
  • Reverend Peter H. Cho, Ph.D., S.T.D., earns doctorate in Sacred Theology from The Pontifical Gregorian University.
  • ICSST’s Preaching as Hospitality Formation Program, funded by $1.25 million grant from Lilly Endowment, Inc., continues Wisdom Figures of Preaching series and Many Faces of Hospitality series; hosts lectio divina sessions; and plans for First Annual University Parish Mission and Annual Advent Reflection Series.
  • Through 4:12 Pathway for Pastoral Leadership project, funded by $989,384 grant from Lilly Endowment, Inc., Deacon Andrew E. Saunders, M.A. ’08, serves as “ambassador” for the permanent diaconate, ICSST, and SHU, presenting locally and nationally on strategic diaconate initiatives underway at ICSST; launches leadership podcast series and video series on the diaconate.
  • Patrick R. Manning, Ph.D., publishes book:  Be Still and Know:  Contemplative Practices for Christian Schools and Educators; presents retreat for Heart of the University Faculty Retreat Series.
  • Rafael X. Gonzalez, Ph.D., publishes book:  Anthropological Optimism vs. Anthropological Pessimism:  And We Need to Recuperate the Latter.
  • Seven journal articles published.
  • Jamie Boulding, Ph.D., develops new graduate course, STHO 6589:  Catholicism, Science, and Technology, to be offered in Spring 2026; continues as facilitator of Theology and Science Reading Group for SHU graduate students and faculty.
  • Two dozen professional and pastoral presentations.
  • ICSST welcomes back Fall 2015 visiting scholar, David Hyman, M.A., for his presentation, “‘Making Glad the City of God’ (Psalm 46:4)…Water in Ancient Jerusalem.”
  • Reverend Paweł Tomczyk, Ph.D., presents on Human Sexuality and Theology of the Body; serves as panelist on In Vitro Fertilization and Healthcare Ethics.
  • Reverend Monsignor Gerard H. McCarren, S.T.D., shares insights regarding St. John Henry Newman, newest Doctor of the Church.
