man-sitting-and-looking-at-a-laptopThis fall, the College of Human Development, Culture, and Media (CHDCM) is offering online information sessions for prospective graduate students, giving them the opportunity to connect and engage with the College’s faculty, staff and current students.

During these monthly information sessions, attendees can find out about the student experience at Seton Hall, including the academic success resources and networking opportunities available, plus consider how their academic background and interests are suited for graduate studies.

"By engaging with College faculty and staff directly, prospective students gain a tangible understanding of the graduate student experience and how it can benefit their interests," said Phil Braun, assistant director of graduate admissions.  "This is a critical part of the decision-making process for those considering advanced degrees." Braun hosts the online information sessions along with the directors from each of the programs.

The sessions provide an opportunity for students from diverse backgrounds and academic experiences to connect virtually, while also serving as a tailored starting point to prepare for the next steps in their academic and professional journeys.

"Attending the information sessions gave me a clear picture of what to expect as a graduate student and helped me see how the program aligned with my career goals. The conversations with faculty and current students made the decision to apply an easy one," said Kendall Williams, who ultimately enrolled in the M.A. in Museum Professions program after participating in the webinars.

The College offers monthly online program-specific information sessions, all featuring topics most important to prospective graduate students. Upcoming sessions include:

"Not only do these information sessions help capture the essence of the program and the general requirements necessary for a degree, they also reveal the personality, expectations and values of a program and its faculty," said Brittany Ricci, who serves as the senior director of communication and enrollment management in CHDCM. "This way, prospective students can assess whether they see themselves in that program or at the University and, most importantly, how that experience may shape their lives."

Those who attend any of these virtual events will receive a $75 application fee waiver.

About the College of Human Development, Culture, and Media
Seton Hall’s College of Human Development, Culture, and Media (CHDCM) embodies the University’s commitment to pedagogical innovation, intellectual ferment and community engagement. Uniting scholars and students from four dynamic departments — Communication, Media, and the Arts; Education Leadership, Management, and Policy; Educational Studies; and Professional Psychology and Family Therapy — the College is the new home of cutting-edge, transdisciplinary inquiry into the stickiest problems of our time.

The faculty, staff and students of the College seek to improve the human condition by collaborating across distinct fields that uniquely complement one another, thereby preparing the next generation of dynamic leaders poised to tackle contemporary social challenges and opportunities. Expression underpins all facets of the integrated College’s portfolio — media as a form of education and artistic expression; teaching and learning as modes of creative expression; expression and expressibility as critical to counseling and therapeutic treatment; and self-expression as a vehicle of social agency.
